|The mandate this year and going forward is to constantly and consciously check that all I do;
Consequently, this year, this forum’s focus will be on these important aspects of our Christian walk, which I must say, is often “parked in our subconscious”…………
Every believer must be passionate about pleasing God; that said, has any of us really thought about how we can please God more?
I recently pondered on that thought and initially I was puzzled, but after a while, wave of thoughts began to flood in, I began to think about what my approach will be to pleasing people. And it was simply, understanding the depth of our relationship, as remits / boundaries will differ from person to person, and as I do, study them and get to know them more, establish level of trust, appreciate them, identify what their preferences (like and dislikes) and expectations of me are, and do those things, in a manner that is mutually acceptable.
The bible tells us in Hebrews 11:6; “But without faith it is impossible to [walk with God and] please Him”, because God is God the Almighty and our creator, we need to add an additional dimension to please HIM, we need HIS help, through HIS Spirit which resides in us, to live a life that is acceptable to HIM. As such, the initial step for us believers, to pleasing God, is to be sure of the relationship we have with God, i.e. ensure that we have accepted Christ as our Lord and saviour, hence, HIS Spirit dwells within us, therefore, we are able to walk in the Spirit, by faith.
Then we must yearn to Know God more, by studying the word to seek more understating of the truth, learn of and discern the heart of God, concerning HIS expectations of us. And as we do these things, we must have complete confidence in God – fully trusting His declarations, promises and living according to His laws, commandments and so doing, in love.
To please God, we must also be generous (Hebrews 13:16) and continuously demonstrate an attitude of gratitude (Psalm 69:30-31), given the multitude we have been blessed with.
Furthermore, we must develop the level of endurance and patience needed to handle tough / troubled times and cope with difficult situations/people, this requires us to rely on Holy Spirit – manifestation of the fruits of the Spirit.
In reality, we cannot please God without the Holy Spirit’s help through the manifestation of fruits such as; kindness, love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control, needed to ensure that our daily lives glorifies God, This should be reflected in how we live our lives i.e. how we reason, conduct ourselves, talk, relate with people (family, friends, colleagues and others we come into contact with), raise our children, do our jobs, make decisions, manage our businesses, handle conflicts, deal with mistakes, set goals, define success and so on.
Thank God for Answered Prayers…………
